Metallurgical Investigation Services

ASAP Metal Testing has a group of metallurgical engineers that all bring different industrial backgrounds to our team. We have worked hard over the years to create a single writing style that is easy for the engineer to create and even easier for the clients to read and understand.

That commitment to the client experience is not universal among testing laboratories.  Any test report that requires a metallurgical opinion at ASAP Metal Testing undergoes a metallurgical investigation peer review.  Peer reviews are when a second person/engineer not involved with the testing project reads the completed report.

In particular, are failure investigation reports. The audience for these reports is concerned with what was the cause and therefore which “company” was responsible for the failure. These opinions need to be clearly written and concise. All peer reviews are performed by a Senior Metallurgical Engineer. Aside from the general readability of the report - other features that are also reviewed are:

  • Are the metallurgical conclusions clearly written and straightforward to understand?
  • Did the peer review identify any weaknesses in the report conclusions or factual evidence where retesting should be performed to better support the initial test results? Should additional samples be tested?
  • Are the photographs in the report clearly identified with captions explaining what is being discussed in the report text? Are there arrows embedded in the photographs for a better understanding of the microstructure or appearance being discussed?
  • On a very simple level - peer review helps prevent typographical errors, run-on sentences, or other writing style errors from affecting how a report is read.

At ASAP Metal Testing we care about our client experience. That includes how the report is read by all parties involved with the investigation. Often times a subcontractor providing metal processing to a component may disagree with a report’s conclusions. This is a typical scenario if the conclusions identified their process as the root cause for the failure.

ASAP Metal Testing is the only provider of metallurgical investigation services that includes a follow-up, live video conference call with your client’s client if there is some dispute or lack of understanding concerning the report findings. We care that our test reports provide resolution to component failure. Call us today to speak to a metallurgical engineer about how we can help you.
